Naming my paintings is a process. Sometimes the names pop into my head during the creation of the piece. Other times I need to sit down and meditate with the painting to hear the name emerge. With this particular painting however the process just seemed to happen within its' own time frame. I had been looking at the piece and contemplating what it should be called and I heard nothing. Kind of like a "writer's block" I suppose. With the painting on my mind, I moved onto doing other things and it was while I was reading something, "Immersion" just popped into my head and I knew that was this beauties name. Perfect!
Immersion - like a baptism. Becoming one with another. Accepting and committing oneself.
While I was laying the many layers of paint on this piece yesterday, I did feel as if I was working with water and the reflection of water itself. Duality - you know - like the other part of yourself or another. May sound weird but...whatever. It makes sense to my creative self and I hope that you gain a sense of cleansing and peacefulness when you look at this beautiful piece.
